Why does my child need to wear sunglasses?

BANZ® sunglasses are an essential and important accessory for protecting your child's eyes from harmful UV rays. Children from birth up to approximately 10 years of age lack the natural filters in their eyes that block UV rays.

Beware of low-quality lenses

Low-quality lenses behind dark glass can cause more harm than good — pupils naturally dilate in darkness, allowing more light — and unfiltered UV rays — to reach the retina. The Ophthalmology Association recommends lenses that block 99-100% of UVA and UVB rays.

How do I teach my child to wear sunglasses?

Wearing sunglasses is a behavior that can be learned, similar to the habit of fastening a seatbelt in the car.

1

First introduction

Put the sunglasses on outside in the sun, not indoors. This way the child will feel the functional difference.

2

Lens cleanliness

Maintain the polycarbonate lenses with a cleaning solution and a soft cloth. Soap and water are also acceptable, but avoid abrasive paper.

3

Proper fitting

Place the nose bridge on the small part of the nose, and the straps over the ears. Adjust the neoprene straps to be snug but not too tight — overly tight sunglasses will be rejected.

4

Patience

Expect initial resistance, especially with infants. Gradual exposure — starting with 5-minute sessions — increases acceptance over time.

UV protection of Banz® sunglasses

The lenses are UV400 category 3, blocking the entire spectrum: 100% UVA, UVB and UVC protection from the sun.

UVA rays: Considered the most harmful to the skin; they cause deep-penetrating burns.
UVB rays: Most harmful to the eyes; they cause damage to the retina and lens during excessive sun exposure.
UVC rays: Extremely dangerous, but blocked by atmospheric absorption before reaching the Earth's surface.

Sunglasses materials

What are the sunglasses made of?

BANZ® frames and lenses use polycarbonate — a practical, flexible, soft and comfortable material for long-term wear and the safest material recommended for children's sunglasses.

Neoprene straps on baby sunglasses

The straps are made from neoprene — the same material used in the production of swim wear.

  • Slim and easy to clean with soap and warm water
  • Soft and comfortable for small heads
  • Float in water — preventing loss in the pool or at the beach
  • Grow with the child thanks to the adjustable fastener
